Notes: | Fresedo told Orlando Barone this was his first composition, inspired by "the far whistle blown by policemen in their rounds". In his description of the scene Fresedo mentions the Hospital Tornú (the first to treat tuberculosis in Argentina) and the Avenida Garmendia, close to his home in the neighborhood of La Paternal, right behind the Cementerio de La Chacarita and not far from the train station. "In the still of the night I used to hear Too-roo-roo, too-roo-roo, too-roo" (see map below). It's still unclear why Fresedo chose this title, "espiante" is slang for "escape" (and not "spy" at the French sheets were titled), maybe these cops were chasing thieves. |
